About Cat Mario - Syobon Action game

Cat Mario, also known as Syobon Action, is a deliberately unfair and chaotic platformer that parodies the classic Super Mario Bros. formula. Released in 2007 by the independent Japanese developer Chiku, the game places players in control of a small white cat navigating levels filled with traps designed specifically to betray their expectations. Ordinary-looking blocks collapse, spikes appear out of nowhere, enemies spawn directly on top of you, and even the flagpole at the end of the level can kill you in more than one way. The game’s design relies heavily on trolling the player, forcing them to learn through trial, error, and a lot of unexpected deaths.

Despite its brutal difficulty, Cat Mario has gained a cult following thanks to its humor, unpredictability, and intentionally frustrating design. The levels never change, which means players can eventually memorize every trap and progress through persistence and pattern recognition. With infinite lives, the game encourages experimentation and resilience rather than perfection. Its bizarre obstacles, retro-inspired music, and relentless surprises have made it one of the most iconic “rage games” on the internet, often shared for laughs, challenges, and reactions.
